WebM with alpha
Export
Video that keeps its transparency.
VP9 in a WebM container, with a real alpha channel. Transparent areas stay transparent, so the result can be composited over anything.
Support is good in browsers and patchy elsewhere — some editors and most social platforms will not take it.
When to reach for it#
- Overlays for web pages.
- Handing motion to a developer to composite.
- Lower thirds and badges that sit over other footage.
Parameters#
Same tiers as MP4. Transparent WebM is a Studio feature.
VP9 is slower to encode than H.264. Expect longer renders.
Things that catch people out#
