Threshold

Colour

Everything becomes pure black or pure white at a brightness cutoff.

The most aggressive tonal operation there is. Measure each pixel's brightness; above the cutoff it is white, below it is black. No greys survive.

Same artwork either side, so the difference you see is the effect. Built with the same SVG-filter primitives the product uses, but tuned for legibility at this size — treat it as a faithful illustration of the behaviour rather than a pixel-exact capture of the editor.

When to reach for it#

  • High-contrast stencil and screen-print looks.
  • Turning a photograph into a silhouette.
  • Generating a hard matte from tonal content.

Parameters#

Levellevel#

The cutoff. Small changes swing large areas from black to white, so this control is far more sensitive than most — animating it produces a dramatic wipe as regions flip.
