Time Remap
Timeline
Animate time itself — speed ramps, freezes and reverses.
Time Remap turns a layer's internal clock into an animatable property. Instead of the layer playing at one second per second, you keyframe where in its own timeline it should be at each moment.
A flat section holds a freeze frame. A steep section plays fast. A downward section runs backwards.
When to reach for it#
- Speed ramps — slowing into a moment and accelerating out.
- Freeze frames.
- Reversing a section without re-animating it.
Parameters#
Where in the layer's own timeline to sample. Keyframe it. The slope between keys is the playback rate.
Things that catch people out#
Slope is speed, not position
Two keyframes an equal distance apart in time and value play at normal speed. Halving the value distance halves the speed. Reading the numbers rather than the slope leads to a lot of confusion.
