Stroke (Outline)

Stylize

A solid outline around the silhouette.

Draws a border following the layer's outline. Unlike a vector stroke, it works on anything — text, images, groups — because it operates on the rendered silhouette.

Same artwork either side, so the difference you see is the effect. Built with the same SVG-filter primitives the product uses, but tuned for legibility at this size — treat it as a faithful illustration of the behaviour rather than a pixel-exact capture of the editor.

When to reach for it#

  • Sticker and cut-out looks.
  • Making text readable over a busy background.
  • Separating overlapping elements.

Parameters#

Widthwidth#

Thickness in pixels.

Positionposition#

Outside grows past the silhouette and never covers the artwork. Inside eats into it, which thins the visible fill. Centre splits the difference.

Colourcolor#

Solid fill for the outline.

Corner joinjoin#

How corners are resolved. Round is forgiving; mitre keeps points sharp but can spike badly on very acute angles.

Things that catch people out#

Inside strokes eat thin artwork

On a hairline, an inside stroke of any real width replaces the whole shape. Use outside.
