Emboss

Stylize

Directional relief — flat grey plate or colour-preserving.

Emboss detects edges and shades them as if lit from one side, turning the layer into a raised or stamped surface.

Grey mode discards colour and leaves a metal-plate look. Colour Emboss keeps the original hues and adds the relief on top.

Same artwork either side, so the difference you see is the effect. Built with the same SVG-filter primitives the product uses, but tuned for legibility at this size — treat it as a faithful illustration of the behaviour rather than a pixel-exact capture of the editor.

When to reach for it#

  • Stamped, engraved and letterpress looks.
  • Adding a tactile surface to flat artwork.
  • Metal plate and coin effects.

Parameters#

Light angleangle#

Which direction the relief is lit from. Flipping it by 180° turns raised into recessed, which is often the whole difference you were after.

Heightheight#

How pronounced the relief is.

Amountamount#

Strength of the effect overall.

Modemode#

Grey discards colour for a plate look. Colour keeps the fill and overlays the relief.
