Color Balance

Colour

Hue, saturation, brightness and contrast in one place.

The four adjustments you reach for most, on one panel. Rotate the hue, push or pull saturation, and set brightness and contrast — all applied to the finished layer.

Same artwork either side, so the difference you see is the effect. Built with the same SVG-filter primitives the product uses, but tuned for legibility at this size — treat it as a faithful illustration of the behaviour rather than a pixel-exact capture of the editor.

When to reach for it#

  • Matching a layer to the rest of a composition.
  • Quick colour grading without a full curve.
  • Animating a colour shift, since every control is keyframable.

Parameters#

Huehue#

Rotates every colour around the wheel, in degrees. It is a rotation, not a replacement, so the relationships between colours in the layer are preserved.

Saturationsaturation#

0 is greyscale, 100 is unchanged, above that is boosted. Pushing past about 150 tends to clip channels and flatten detail.

Brightnessbrightness#

Adds or subtracts uniformly. Because it shifts rather than scales, heavy use crushes shadows or blows highlights — Levels gives you more control.

Contrastcontrast#

Pushes values away from mid-grey. Raising contrast always costs you detail at both ends.
